Rita’s Rainbows honors Big Brothers Big Sisters with School Based Grant

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Rita’s Rainbows awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters a $2,000 grant in support of their school based youth mentoring programs. These funds will be used for supplies for the STEM curriculum at our three school based sites. Rita’s Rainbows has supported Big Brothers Big Sisters School Based programs since 2014.

Cassie Goehner, Rita’s mother, founder of Rita’s Rainbows says, “SLO Bigs is an important program for so many youth in our community. Rita’s Rainbows is pleased to be able to support their school based programs that benefit our youth”.

The School Based program carefully selects and pairs high school and college students (Bigs) with elementary students (Littles) for weekly supervised group and individual activities taking place at elementary school sites. Bigs travel to their partner elementary school once each week for the entire school year. The program creates an exceptional bond between at-risk children and older students who have volunteered to support them.

“Rita’s Rainbows is helping to empower the potential of both the Bigs and Littles in our school based mentoring programs.  Big Brothers Big Sisters is grateful for their continued support and belief in our proven outcomes,” says Patty Carpenter, Development Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Luis Obispo County.
